PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE


A. POLA KALIMAT

A.    KALIMAT VERBAL

Contoh kalimat:
(+) He was reading  a newspaper.
 (Dia (lk) sedang membaca koran.)
(-)  He was not reading  a newspaper.
(Dia (lk) tidak sedang membaca koran.)
(?) Was  he reading  a newspaper?
(Apakah dia (lk) sedang membaca koran?)

B. KALIMAT NOMINAL

Pola kalimat Nominal bentuk Past Continuous Tense sama sengan pola pada tenses Simple Past.

 B. KETERANGAN  WAKTU
v  All morning yesterday                  : Sepanjang pagi kemarin.
v  At 07.00 a’clock yesterday         : Pada jam 7 kemarin.
v  When...                                              : Ketika
v  While...                                               : Sementara
v  As...                                                     : Pada saat/sewaktu
v  At the same time yesterday        : Pada jam sama kemarin

 C. PENGGUNAAN
1.      Mengungkapkan aktivitas yang sedang berlangsung di masa lampau.
Contoh:
                                      i.            Jack was having an exercise at 06.00 yesterday.
(Jack sedang berolahraga pada jam 6 kemarin)
                                    ii.            We were watching a television at 08.00 last night.
(Kami sedang menonton televisi jam 8 tadi malam.)

2.      Untuk menyatakan aktivitas yang sedang terjadi ketika kejadian lain menyusul /terjadi masa lampau.
Contoh:
                                      i.            He was sleeping when I called him last night.
(Dia(lk) sedang tidur ketika aku menelepon dia tadi malam.)

                                    ii.            While I was sweeping the floor, my father was wathering plants/
(Ketika saya sedang menyapu lantai, ayahku sedang menyiram tanaman.)
